Privacy policy
Last updated: 21 September 2026. This policy covers the ChessReview Android app and these support pages. The operator is Ahmed Laftit, United Kingdom. Contact: chessreviewsupport@gmail.com.
On your device
The app stores games, player names and game metadata, local profiles, reviews, settings and remembered search usernames locally. Stockfish and explanations run on the device. The app does not send your library or analysis to the developer.
Local data remains until you remove it in the app, clear app storage or uninstall. Export anything you want to keep first. Android backup and transfer are disabled in the app configuration; copies made by you or other software are controlled separately.
Optional online imports
Searching for or importing public Lichess or Chess.com games sends HTTPS requests directly to that provider. Requests include a game identifier or username and relevant month or search filters. The provider receives your IP address, the app's User-Agent and ordinary connection details. No provider password is requested and your saved library is not uploaded.
Providers may retain access or security logs or infer approximate location from an IP address. Their own practices apply: Lichess privacy policy and Chess.com privacy policy. The app's short-lived memory cache does not determine provider retention. You can instead import PGN or FEN locally and analyse offline. Local deletion does not delete a provider's original game.
Clipboard, files and sharing
The app reads the clipboard when you choose Paste. File imports read your selected document or shared content. Exports go to the location or app you choose, which may be cloud-synced. Review private names and notes before sharing.
Google Play
Google Play processes purchases and distribution; payment details are not entered into ChessReview. Google handles platform data under its privacy policy. Information available to the developer in Play Console is used for purchase support, app reliability and legal obligations. No separate billing or crash-reporting SDK is included in the app.
Email support
Ahmed Laftit and Gmail receive the email address, message and attachments you send. We use them to answer you and investigate issues. Send only what is needed and remove private game notes or names where possible. Support is optional; without enough information we may be unable to investigate a problem.
We remove support messages and attachments from our active mailbox within 90 days after an issue is resolved. Relevant information is retained longer only while an issue or dispute remains open or a legal obligation requires it. Request earlier deletion by email. Google's backup and service-log retention follows its own policy.
Website and service providers
GitHub Pages hosts these static pages. We add no analytics, advertising, cookies, remote fonts, tracking pixels or contact forms. GitHub receives IP addresses and request details to deliver and secure the site. It determines log retention according to purpose and legal requirements described in its privacy statement; we do not set a separate fixed period.
Gmail and GitHub may process information in the United States and other countries. Their policies explain applicable transfer arrangements, including adequacy frameworks and contractual safeguards where relevant: Google frameworks and GitHub transfers. Contact us for information about the services used for your request.
Reasons and rights
We rely on legitimate interests to answer support requests, fix problems and protect the service; on contractual necessity for purchase and support obligations; and on legal obligations where applicable. We do not sell personal information or use support messages for advertising.
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of information we hold. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email us; we may need information to verify your request. We cannot remotely retrieve or delete a library held only on your device.
You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office or your local authority. Chess analysis does not make legal or similarly significant decisions about you.
Age and changes
ChessReview is intended for ages 13 and over. Contact us if a child under 13 has sent us personal information. We will update this page when practices change and explain material changes before introducing them.
